Hello everyone! It’s Aaron Fifield, your host for this show. This week’s episode features a conversation I had with Kory Hoang.
Keep in mind that Kory isn’t a veteran trader. He’s not a trader who has been doing it for 10-20 years. In fact, he’s just been trading for a few years and has started making pretty decent gains on his trading capital.
He’s also not a full-time trader. When we recorded this conversation a few weeks back he was still at his full-time job. Since then I’ve heard he actually handed in his notice and taking the leap into full-time trading.
If you’re just getting started in trading, you may find quite a few commonalities between you and Kory’s situation.
In case you’re wondering, Kory is a retail systematic trader. He runs many algorithmic strategies he’s developed. All of these are fairly simple, which run on different ETNs, ETFs and some cryptocurrencies.
We chat a lot about his journey and how he has progressed as a trader. Kory does talk about specifics about a few strategies. I want you to keep in mind that you are the one responsible for any trading decisions.
I hope you enjoy this week’s episode with Kory Hoang.
What’s Covered in This Interview:
- What prompted Kory to go from a “gambler” to a wannabe algorithmic trader, including interning at Merrill Lynch and becoming hooked on trading.
- Resources Kory used when he learned how to code.
- What really gave Kory the confidence to use actual money with his first strategy.
- How Kory is able to work a full-time job and find the schedule to start an algorithmic trading side business (he was even contributing to charity!).
- A guide to Kory’s targeted returns.
- Kory’s framework for testing which assets are better suited for momentum or mean reversion strategies as well as his thoughts in a few parameters and indicators.
