Interview with Andy Kershner – Chat with Traders Episode 128

Joining me on this week’s episode is Andy Kershner. Since the early 90s he has been a trader. In 2001 he founded the company Kershner Trading Group, a proprietary trading and technology firm based in Austin, Texas. Kershner Trading also has a second office in Midtown Manhattan through a partnership with SMB Capital.

During this interview, we talked about Andy’s ability to take pain on adverse position and if this has been a key component to his trading success. We also discuss in depth about whether or not traders make more money if they have higher risk tolerance. Andy also lets us know what his daily habits are. He also takes the time to critique a trade that didn’t go well from a session just before recording this episode. Of course, there’s also a lot more that we cover.

Please enjoy today’s episode, and make sure to take some notes as I’m sure you’ll be learning a lot.

What’s Covered in This Interview:

  • Why Andy has the ability to take on the pain on trades moving against him.
  • A debate on whether or not day traders make more money if they have a higher risk tolerance.
  • The daily habits And has that have contributed to his success, beyond employing good strategies.
  • Andy’s critiques on his trades from a session before this podcast episode recording.
  • Different kinds of strategies that have been working well for Andy recently.
  • How Andy “ladders” into favorable positions, plus a few suggestions on how you can do the same.
  • Because Andy has hired so many traders, he has a lot of insights into how newbies can have hore success. He graciously shares some of the common errors traders who are just starting out make and how these people can be better prepared.
